How does one pay taxes on NRE & FCNR accounts? I mean, Indian banks do not issue 1099-INT forms like US banks do. Do they issue some kind of certificate in lieu of that form? Calculating taxes on FCNR accounts can be little easier as they pay you interest in dollars, but how do you calculate taxes on NRE rupee accounts? At what conversion rate you convert your rupee interest in dollars? Also, I know you have to report your accounts abroad to the US treasury dept, ONLY if the total amount in those accounts together exceeds $10,000 any time in any year as instructed in 1040-Schedule B. So if it is below $10k, you do not need to report and if you do not report, then how do you pay taxes on it? If you still need to pay, then what documents you need to provide to IRS from your Indian bank?
I am pretty sure this can be very useful for those have or plan to have bank accounts in their native countries for meeting local expenses. So please share your knowledge and information here.

The wait was almost 3 hrs, cause there was only ONE person doing the finger printing stuff. When my turn came, the person really did it fast, took about 5 minutes for the whole process...but for some people I observed, took about, 1/2 hr....don't know why it took that long for them.

It is surprising it took that much time.

Hello All,
NSC processing times report dated 6/15/06 is available on AILA website. Per this report, NSC is processing EB3 I-140 applications dated 1/16/06. For the last (3) months, it was 2/20/06. The processing time has started going in the wrong direction for this category. Does anyone here have an idea as to what could have caused this change?

When did you receive your passport back? After how many days?
Did you also get 221g request, like I am seeing on a lot of cases?
I only have 2 weeks of leave and I am hesitant to be stuck over there more than that time. People are saying the that 221g form is being issued with "Not in PIMS" as the information given for them and they are waiting for more than 2 weeks.
There are two option for getting the passport. You can collect directly from the consulate, the next day if not collected they will post it to you. I got it in 2 days.

Here are the different steps there in HYD consulate.
1. Security check.
2. Application/Documents Check & ordering. At this point, they make sure that you have every thing that is required for the interview. PIMPS check is also done here. I know this because on my application, they stamped "PIMPS verified".

4. Interview.
Its been 2 months now since I attended for VISA. They might have changed the process also. Pls consider this as a information and don't take this as granted.

Yes, it's confusing. Some people say you can get it on arrival, but I believe for Indians we need it before we depart. For people reading this post in the future, keep this in mind.

3) Go visit local ACLU, they have a particular dislike of ID restrictions e.g. Real ID. They are fighting Real ID, and you might find that local ACLU is looking for evidence of qualified applicants being denied DL. They need people with standing before they can sue.
4) I think that Writ of Mandamus (WOM) only applies to federal government, but I might be wrong, or the state may have a similar statute where you can sue them to force them to act. It would require a consultation with a local attorney, but again ACLU would be a good starting place, they would at least be able to point you in the right direction.
5) Organize a letter campaign to governor, but research his/her politics first, so you are not pushing against an immovable position.
6) Leave and reenter USA to get new I94.

I doubt that many people will support this thought. So far the CP interview scheduled at US consulates in India does not even cross 100. I doubt that DOS was worried for these 100 people and that's why they set the EB2 India date to 1 June 2006. Its almost proved that unless USCIS act fast, majority of 20K visas that we have estimated ... will go waste.
It could also be that the estimate of 20K is plainly incorrect.
By moving date to 06/01, if DOS could clear all pending applications at CP, I don't see that as a bad move as that also gives USCIS, the flexibility to approve applications randomly.
Are you saying that USCIS has cleared all pending applications until 2004 and reason why DOS has moved the dates to 2006? And if that was true, then come October dates should stay at 2006 if not go back to 2003 or so. Let us wait and watch.

I have some knowledge of inner working of these bodyshopping companies. Almost half of the people for whom they sponsor H1B visas never join their companies. And considering the stingy budget on which these companies operate, they simply cannot afford to sue all these people. So I can assure you that if you decide not to join your particular bodyshopper, you won't be the first person to do so.
I myself got 3 separate H1B approved before deciding on one company. The other two H1B approvals I simply tore away.
As far as suing you is concerned, do remember that the company's can not sue you simply on the basis of your SSN number. They have to have your US address to send you a lawyer's notice (The legal process in the US is more or less same as in India). So without your US address who will they demand money from?

It may be USCIS error , it says same for my approved H1B , after that H1b i got extension too.Don't worry
My employer also received a notice of withdrawal of my previously approved H-1B supposedly because of a written withdrawal letter which my employer never filed. Ironically, prior to that notice, I already received my extension. Really wierd. Now my lawyer will send a response together with my employer's letter denying filing a written withdrawal.

Does your USPS receipt has the right zip code in it ? Please check that first..i had a very bad exprience that they punched in the wrong zip code and hence it did not reach for almost 25 days....the bad thing is it took 25 days for every one to figure that it was due to bad zip code.

As many of you being in the same boat, I don't know where my I-485 application is at this point . As of now neither my Checks have been cashed nor have I got the rejected 485 envelope.
I called USCIS couple of times with out much of luck as they don't know where my application is and asked me wait till 31st July giving them 30 days time from the day of filing.
So my question if I don't hear back back anything until Aug1st week, is it possible to file I-485 for the second time. If that is ok then would it complicate the issue by having 2 I-485 applications.

assuming u've indian passport........ u've to goto a consulate to get the stamp..... u cannot get the visa @ the port of entry.....
ottawa or montreal or qubec maybe a good place to go to get the stamp if u've time....... the principle h1 holder does not need to have a stamp in the passport before dependents could get the stamp...... but make sure u trake u'r appointment & carry all proofs of u'r marriage including marriage certificate & pictures, both i-797s i.e. u'r spouses' i797 also plus completed form, pictures, etc.....
u may also need canadian visa to enter canada.....
mine is an old case..... so gurus who recently got their visa stamped in canada could jump in with more information
