Mark, isn't the cost/price of something relative to the buyer and what he/she can afford?
As for it being a walk-about, I don't think so.....and, for being a "toy" its not something I would put a string on, and some wheels and pull around ......but I do have some of those-type toys.

You know, if there is one thing that I have learnt in the past 8 years of this immigration quagmire, then that's got to be to remain optimistic and give time to rule the roost.
For all our worries, lets for a second, play devil's advocate and say its going to happen. Consulting is banned, companies like Wipros, TCS's, Accenture and several others such as these including our own desi bro companies will get effected.
Flip side to that is to find citizen independent consultants or to send jobs out.
I for one believe that this will force America to bleed jobs. Bleed hightech jobs out of every nozzle they have. They can keep all the Agi jobs, lawn moving jobs they want but it cannot stop technological innovations wait while they are trying to fill people using citizen consultants.
Globalization will knock the wind out of America if they sit and pass stupid laws just because democrats and republicans want to fullfil their egos. If it has to happen, so be it. What goes up has to come down. America rode up because they had the knack to attract the best and the brightest, now, if they decide to kick them out, watch the elevator come down...

Now if we are pushed to go back, I personally would take it as a challenge to better myself in my own nation. US is an awesome place, no doubts abt it, but laws like this will only express its growing ignorance as well as arrogance....

The rule of 7% is to be implemented annually not over a decade/century.

On 01 April 2008, the gates will open for H-1B applications. H-1B visas are one of the most highly sought-after visa category for employers wishing to hire skilled foreign workers for positions in the United States. The question remains whether the landscape for an H-1B visa increase will become more favorable as America gears up for the 2008 presidential election.
Last April, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) received almost twice the amount of applications to fill the quota of 65,000 visas in one day. Because of this, USCIS was forced to use a computerized random selection process to fill the 65,000 places alloted by Congress. The 20,000 extra H1B exemptions for foreign Masters graduates of US universities was reached in only one month.
As most of the H-1B visas are granted for technology workers, companies such as Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, and Google have been lobbying Congress to raise the cap. They argue that the US needs foreign labor to make the US more competitive in today's global market.
Their arguments have not fallen of deaf ears, and with the upcoming presidential elections, technology companies in the US may get an ally to their cause in the Executive Office.
Both Democratic contenders, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, have gone on the record as being in favor of increasing the H-1B quota. However, Obama and Clinton both highlighted that general immigration reform should take precedence over a temporary measure of increasing H-1B visa quotas.
"As part of our comprehensive reform, we should examine our ability to replace a stopgap increase in the number of H-1B visas with an increase in the number of permanent visas we issue to foreign skilled workers," Obama said in an interview with TechCrunch.
"I have also supported significantly increasing the cap on H-1B visas because they are effective tool for attracting the best and brightest to America," Clinton said in response to a questionairre sent out by ZDNet on technology-related issues. "I support increasing the H-1B cap as part of comprehensive immigration reform," she added. However, she also supported a sharp increase in H-1B visa fees, with proceeds to go towards training American workers.
As for the Republican side of the issue, John McCain, the leading contender for his party's nomination, also feels that increasing H-1B visa quotas is needed to keep America competitive. While he said he would continue supporting an increase in H-1B visas, McCain feels that the most Americans would rather clamp down on immigration.
"I will continue to support H-1B visas, but, Im telling you, the American peoples priority is, either rightly or wrongly, and we live in a democracy, is that we secure the borders first," McCain said during a technology conference in May 2007.
Having a sympathetic ear in the Whitehouse over the H-1B visa issue would certainly help, but tech companies and other interested parties will ultimately have to appeal to Congress for a raise in the cap.

Go to FLCDataCenter.com (http://flcdatacenter.com/CasePerm.aspx)
Download the MDB database file for the year in which your PERM was filed. Open it in MS access, search for your company's name and then to the date on which your PERM was filed (which is also your PD). This filed gives you lot of information about your application.
Please can you elaborate on how to pull your PERM record from flcdatacenter?....for all our benefit.

these numbers dont include the cases for which they are awaiting action from the individuals (thats what it says on the website)...so my guess they must have sent RFE's for the rest..;-)..
also .. i think they put out some numbers to get the monkey off their back....
I checked USCIS's report for pending / incoming application for Dec 2008. and it shows some where 600k 485 pending including all Eb / Fb and refusee etc.. while in this current article total for all 485 comes 370888. Which means either they have adjucted 230k I 485s in 2 months. Which doesnot seems to be correct. They may have adjucted 485 for immidiate relative without using visa numbers but still 230k in 2 months seems very high.

Planning to go to Canada for two days. Apart from this, is there any additional document required like offer letter, salary slip? The Automatic Visa Revalidation rule mentions only these
#1. Your I-94 card endorsed by a BCBP officer to show a valid period of stay in the U.S.
#2. A valid passport.
#3. A previously valid visa for H status or another status.
#4. A current Form I-797 Approval Notice.
Real experience at POE will be helpful.

Hi,
There is a chance you may get extension of stay (new I 94), please note that the process is not certain.
I did not get extension approval for my parents.
Let us say for an example, my parents came to US on 01 Jan 2003 with a 10 years visa, up on entry they got 6 months approval to stay, that is till June 30 2003. Please note that this visit was the second visit to US, the first was in 2000 for 6 months.
In March 2003 we decided to request for extension of stay, as per conventional knowledge, we should not make the extension request too much in advance, it is recommended to apply 30 days before you permitted stay ends.
Applied extension on 01 June 2003, the USCIS may take 2 to 3 months to process those application. There is a website where you could monitor the status, every day we used to monitor that and found on 10 Aug 2003 stating that the extension is rejected. On 16 Aug 2003 we got a letter stating that extension is rejected and it is out of status now. Please note that there was no clear indication when the out of status time started, it is a big mess. I do know if an application is pending, it is legal and it is in status.
As per the law, if a visitor is out of status even for a day, the 10 years Visitor Visa is invalid, and could have issues for the visitor's GC process.
Only good part is, in most of the cases they do not invalidate the Visa. I have noticed in many cases the visitors had to apply for a new 10 year visitors visa and that was a big mess too.
The reason why I had to write the long reply is to give our IV members a chance to take an informed decision.
My take is, I would not recommend the extension process to any of my friends.

I never said i am a rich guy..btw how do you know that non-US born kids of illegal parents go through things that you've mentioned? Last time i checked, they get free education in a public school (with very few exceptions), free health care from ER, tax free income etc...

Can anybody answer why I am getting the above message , even though my receipt number is correct and was received in an email from dhs.gov. This was filed in California Service Center under premium processing. I am surpised that it doesn't even says the case as pending...did anybody else had the same issue after filing the date received receipt is 10/12.
